“To think we are rubbing shoulders with the biggest club in the country as little old Southport,” suggests Connor Jameson, Southport’s director of hockey.
Jameson is seen as one of the key instigators of the Merseyside club’s rapid transformation after an equally rapid decline in recent seasons. The wind may whip off the coast, but it is firmly in the club’s sails now.
“I guess you could say a few things have changed at Southport,” he says. “New pitch, new coach, new results. Over the past six years we have struggled, losing three of our mens’ teams, one of our ladies’ teams and a junior team, had two relegations and the other two teams finishing bottom half of the table.”
