I want to carry on but depends on GB Hockey, says Danny Kerry

Danny Kerry wants to carry on as Great Britain and England Hockey coach but fears he may not be given the chance after a crushing Olympic men’s quarter-final exit, writes Tom Harle in Tokyo.

Kerry watched a team he has spent nearly three years in charge of muster all their remaining energy before sliding out of the Games with a 3-1 defeat to India.

The 50-year-old has a hard exterior but was an emotional wreck in a post-game interview, talking of the mental toll taken by a tournament like no other.

“This has been the hardest Olympics by some margin,” said Kerry, coaching at his fourth with his first coming in Beijing.

  1. There isn’t anyone better than him in the country at this moment! I believe he should be there till the World Cup and Paris 2024. Fingers crossed.

  2. The team needed a balance of set peice and open play goal scorers. Relying solely on set pieces was a problem when they did not work to expectations.
