‘We musn’t lose sight of smaller clubs’ 3G pitch struggles,’ says GB Olympian

Great Britain Olympian Tom Sorsby has weighed in on the 3G astroturf issue affecting non asset-owned clubs, saying focus must remain on the small clubs who may be forced to fold, writes Richard Bright.

Sorsby’s boyhood club Chapeltown HC in Sheffield has been faced with two moves after the schools where they play hockey replaced astroturf with a 3G pitch and now the club is fighting to stay alive.

Chapeltown had played at Hinde House School for 15 years before relocating to Ecclesfield School in Chapeltown. But to the club’s “dismay”, the school’s management company opted for a 3G laid pitch which is not conducive for competitive hockey.
