Operation Olympus: Recalling hockey’s world record attempt

Two years ago, 17 pupils and two teachers were joined by Team GB hockey manager Andy Halliday and Hockey for Heroes (H4H) for the Operation Olympus trip to support local communities in Nepal. Here, 14-year-old Bridie Mason recounts a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

July 10: Kathmandu to Pokhara
After a long flight from London and a day in Kathmandu acclimatising, we set off on a day-long coach journey to Pokhara. Our first real taste of Nepalese roads, a fantastic opportunity to talk to the H4H team and meet our mentors.

July 11: Pokhara to Kagbeni
We start a nine-hour jeep ride at 8.30am, after sunny weather the conditions become tricky due to a rainstorm. A landslide three hours from Jomsom prevents us from arriving on schedule…
