Cullen scored two second-half PCs, and was injured scoring the second, in a game where Danson looked by far the best forward on the field.

Winning captain Kate Walsh said the win was “bittersweet”. It is tinged with a bit of sadness with those two injuries,” she said.

Coach Danny Kerry said Cullen would be OK – she was on crutches at the end of the game with her ankle strapped. He said he had not had a chance to talk to Alex due to media commitments and he had no idea where she was.

Kerry was also guardedly critical of the protection his players received from the officials. Saying officiating needed to move towards a similar ‘”performance environment” to that of the players.

In terms of the experience of the tournament as preparation for the Olympics at the same venue. “We have sampled the atmosphere and that is a definite advantage. We won’t come here all starry eyed and that is a definite competitive advantage,” he said.

Bronze medal game

Korea 3
Lee Seonok, (PC, 3)
Park Kiju (FG, 11)
Cheon Seulki (PC, 33)
China 2
Zhao Yudiao (FG, 20)
Li Hongxia (FG, 70)

Korea showed that they are much better to wwatch when they attack. Not least because their defence becomes so open. Better finishing and corners from China and they might have been taking bronze medals home.
