Hockey’s Asian Champions Trophies postponed once more

The Asian Champions Trophy tournaments for both men and women have been postponed due to the ongoing pandemic.

The Men’s Asian Champions Trophy had been set for March 11- 19 in Dhaka, Bangladsesh, while Donghae, South Korea was set to host the women’s event slated for the end of March.

It is understood that the women’s event could be rescheduled for September and the men’s in October.

“The decision of postponement has been difficult for the Asian Hockey Federation,” its president Dato Fumio Ogura said. “But after consulting with the hosts, the participating teams, and the FIH we had to make this unfortunate announcement.

“The safety, health and welfare of the athletes comes first for us, while we also strive to provide equal opportunity for all.”

South Korea are the defending women’s champions, having won three of the previous five editions.

Pakistan and India shared the men’s trophy in three years ago due to bad weather in Oman.

This is the second time the events have been put back due to the pandemic.
