The 2024 Women’s Eurohockey Indoor Championship will be held at Berlin’s Horst-Kober-Sportzentrum from Feb 8-11.
The venue was confirmed this week with Germany previously announced as the host country for the event, meaning a return to the hall which was packed out for the 2020 Men’s EuroHockey Indoor Championship.
“I am very pleased that the sports metropolis of Berlin will be the venue for the Women’s EuroHockey Indoor Championships,” said Berlin’s Senator for the Interior and Sports, Iris Spranger.
“The participating teams will find optimal conditions in the capital. I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed for the German team as they strive to defend their title. The Berliners are an enthusiastic audience and will support our female athletes to the best of their ability,”
This hosting follows the German women’s success in Hamburg last December in the 2022 edition, the host country is looking forward to defending the title there.
Martin Schultze, Sports Director of the German Hockey Federation, added: “We are very happy the EuroHockey Indoor Championships will once again be held in Germany after the successful 2022 championships in Hamburg.
“Berlin as a venue is, of course, very special because of the success of the men in 2020. As an indoor hockey nation, we are looking forward to the EuroHockey Championship and are pursuing the goal of defending the title with the women. We would like to thank the city of Berlin for supporting our bid.”
The competition will feature 10 nations with Germany joined by the Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, the Czech Republic and Türkiye along with promoted sides Spain, Belgium, Poland and Switzerland.
For the hosts, they have already confirmed they will have a new coaching team with Dominic Giskes and Markus Weise taking on the reins from Valentin Altenburg who will be in Argentina with the outdoor national team at the same time.
“I’m very pleased that Dominic and Markus agreed to join us immediately,” Altenburg said. “Dominic is a great German coaching talent and a tactician to boot. It’s very good that he’s now in his first important international tournament and he can gain some experience.
“In addition, Dominic and Markus both love indoor hockey. That is a good starting point for another highlight event in front of a home crowd.””
Weise, his co-coach at this tournament adds: “During the last national coaches’ meeting, Martin and Valentin asked whether I could imagine coaching the Danas at the EuroHockey Indoor Championships 2024 together with Dominic.
“Most recently, I was involved with the men’s team in Hamburg, together with Rein van Eijk. I’m looking forward to the project of conquering the 2024 EuroHockey Indoor Championships title with a young hungry Danas team.”
The venue for the men’s 2024 EuroHockey Indoor Championship will be confirmed in due course along with the other venues for next year’s international indoor season.
