‘Energy price hikes will be another challenge to broadening hockey’s appeal’

The increases in energy costs will have a “significant impact” on hockey clubs, while calls have been made for the UK government to provide grants for more LED usage.

Clubs last week expressed “extreme concern” and worry over the rise in electricity rates and the increased running costs as the cost of living crisis takes effect. Now, Britain’s leading club Surbiton has lifted the lid on the likely bill hikes it expects to pay.

Surbiton’s finance manager Sean Peche revealed that the club is expected to pay an estimated additional £23,000 next year on current energy prices.
