Hockey World Cup: Will England women ever deliver success mid-Olympic cycle?

England women finished eighth on group rankings at the Women’s World Cup as their quest for a first medal in 12 years ended in the last eight. Here, The Hockey Paper looks at the state of play

The mid-Olympic cycle blip

Is the central programme geared towards Olympic success only? Bisham HQ will no doubt tell you otherwise but it’s hard to look beyond the fact that the GB and England set-up can only realistically garner meals at an Olympics over World Cups, Commonwealth Games and EuroHockeys.
