New Delhi. After an injury post the ODI World Cup, fast bowler Mohammed Shami is expected to make a return to Team India soon. Shami might rejoin the squad for the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19 in Chennai. He was the leading wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023, claiming 24 wickets in just seven matches, including a remarkable 7-57 against New Zealand in the semi-final held in Mumbai. Following the World Cup, Shami had to stay away from cricket due to a right ankle injury and underwent surgery in 2024.
After months away, Shami is recovering well from his injury. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, he is in the final stages of his rehab at the NCA and began bowling last month. The report mentions that after recovering, Shami has gradually increased his bowling workload. Sports news in Hindi indicates that the chief selector Ajit Agarkar has mentioned Shami’s bowling progress and his aim to play in the Test series against Bangladesh, marking his international comeback.
