Reply To: PDF Translator
I just recently used https://www.translate.com/services/pdf-translation/german to translate a PDF into German and can share my experience. Let me start by saying that the service is really not bad for general translation, but as with any automatic tool, you have to be careful. First of all, I noticed that formatting problems are quite common. PDFs often contain images, graphics, and non-standard formatting, which can cause text to “float” or lose structure. I would recommend converting the PDF to Word first before uploading it to Translate.com. This keeps the text more or less in order and avoids surprises. As for the quality of translation, Translate.com does quite well for common phrases and simple sentences. But if the document contains specialized terms, especially in the technical or medical field, difficulties may arise. In my case, I was translating a document related to legal issues, and some terms were translated incorrectly. Therefore, after the automatic translation, I made sure to edit the text to correct errors and improve readability. This also gave me a better understanding of what might be difficult for a native speaker to understand.
