When Michael Nobbs played hockey, he made everybody else look like they were using a shovel

Peter D’Cruz pays tribute to the life of Michael Nobbs, an influential figure in Australian hockey, who died this week

Michael Nobbs, a 1984 Australian Olympian, was an outstanding hockey player and his reputation as a coach throughout his life is legendary beyond Australia.

Michael coached at club level in Perth and at WA state level. During the 90s and into the 2000s, he coached in Japan. Michael was the head coach of India men at the London 20212 Olympics. For the rest of his life, he continued his coach consultancy work in many countries and his influence on players and coaches is numbered in the thousands.
