Hockey India League: Vedanta Kalinga Lancers shade Ranchi Royals to title

Vedanta Kalinga Lancers defeated Ranchi Royals 3-2 to claim the Men’s Hero Hockey India League in front of their home fans in Bhubaneswar.

Alexander Hendrickx scored a first-half double to set Lancer on their way, while a late PC from Ranchis captain Tom Boon added late pressure.

His final goal left the Belgian hotshot with a tournament leading 19 goals.

Amandeep Lakra was crowned the Hero Player of the Tournament and was awarded INR 20 Lakh.

Meanwhile HIL GC were awarded the Fairplay Award. Tamil Nadu Dragons goalkeeper Prince Deep Singh won the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Talem Priyobarta of HIL GC earned the Upcoming Player of the Tournament award.

Lancers goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak was in superb form as he made three big saves against Sam Lane, Boon and Nilam Sanjeep Xess. His stick save from Boon with six minutes left was the pick of the bunch.

Hyderabad Toofans clinched third place by defeating HIL GC 4-3 in a high-scoring thriller. Sam Ward scored twice for HIL.
