BBC DJ Jess Iszatt: ‘Hockey isn’t like 5-a-side, you commit to a day of the sport’

The BBC Radio DJ discusses her love of playing club hockey, injuries and diversity

Jess Iszatt, the BBC Radio DJ and Spurs fan, is extolling the virtues of Tottenham great Son Heung-min. As a club hockey player, she can visualise a lot of the energy she competes with in the same way Son played the game. “He’s rapid, direct and wasn’t afraid to run at a defender – that’s what felt like his approach.”

You see, Iszatt, who runs out for Hertfordshire-based Broxbourne HC as a forward, loves nothing better than a ball fed over where she has space to run into.

“That’s the absolute sweet spot,” she says. “I don’t want to be spending any energy trying to get around someone by doing something fancy. I want to run as fast as I can and have a go at goal.”
