‘As captain I can’t let standards drop playing Dutch hockey’

Welshman talks club captaincy, Struan Walker’s rise and Dutch directness

Jacob Draper knows he can’t let his standards drop at home or abroad. At Pinoké in the Dutch Hoofdklasse he admitted to imposter syndrome after being appointed captain and surrounded by Dutch and Belgian internationals and Olympic gold medallists to boot.

It was while the Welshman was playing for his country in Malaysia that he was called after midnight by his Pinoké coach after a player and board consensus that Draper should take the club armband.
