Glasgow-based Clydesdale Hockey Club is celebrating after officially being confirmed as holders of two Guinness World Records — a major milestone for the club and Scottish hockey.
The achievements were completed over the May 2024 Bank Holiday weekend but have only recently been officially verified by Guinness World Records.
The record-breaking efforts were part of a fundraising drive to support the club’s goal of building a new hockey pitch for its players and the wider community.
During the event on the club’s own pitch, Clydesdale players and supporters set two new global benchmarks:
- Longest marathon playing hockey. The club played continuously for 60 hours, surpassing the previous record of around 56 hours.
- Most players in a hockey exhibition match. 420 participants took part in a single exhibition game, setting a new record in this category
Club organisers said the dual achievements were not only a huge sporting triumph but also a boost to their campaign to replace their aging playing surface, with hopes the new pitch will be completed by summer 2026 and serve the community for years to come.
Officials and members described the feat as a “milestone for Scottish hockey”, highlighting the effort of volunteers, players of all ages, and sponsors who helped make the attempt possible.
The event also drew widespread local support throughout the marathon match and exhibition game.
Clydesdale’s recent success joins a variety of hockey-related entries in the Guinness World Records collection, including the highest game of hockey when a match played at an altitude of over 5,000 m in Nepal was officially recognised as the highest-ever such game.
