‘You win or you learn’ is a beautiful saying – it’s been my hockey journey

This is the rollercoaster story of a player who almost stepped away from the sport, a hockey journey which has taken in Australia, a decade of teaching and now a fresh lease of life on the continent. Last season, Englishman Alex Williams won his first trophy as a player when he helped his Belgian side Royal Orée lift its first trophy in nearly three decades.

“My first season got off to the worst possible start,” Williams recalls.

“My papers hadn’t arrived, but because it’s a professional league, you have to have the right visa so you can live and work in the country. With a small ankle injury as well, I missed the first six matches, which was pretty devastating.
