The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has approved the country’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will help hockey’s bid to regain programme status should India be given the green light.
Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and New Delhi are being considered as one of the host cities.
“I am happy that all are together and it was a unanimous decision and our preparations will go ahead. We can’t just tell whether Ahmedabad is the host city. We have good facilities in Bhubaneswar and even in Delhi also,” IOA President PT Usha said last week.
Nigeria, Canada and two other countries had also reportedly expressed interest to host the Games. Canada withdrew earlier this year.
The final host nation for the 2030 Commonwealth Games will be decided in the last week of November in Glasgow.
In January, Commonwealth Games Federation officials officials were in India and attended multiple cities, while they were also present in Rourkela for the Hockey India League.
India men won a silver when hockey was played at the 2010 Commonwealths in New Delhi.
