The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has named Sport Group, represented by its AstroTurf and Polytan brands, as the exclusive supplier of hockey turf for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
Under the agreement, three fields — competition, warm-up, and training— will be manufactured and installed by AstroTurf using Poligras turf technology. The installation will also include advanced shock pads to ensure athlete safety and performance.
There will be only one competition hockey pitch at LA2028, with the tournament starting two days before the opening ceremony.
AstroTurf, the original synthetic turf brand made in the USA, introduced Olympic hockey turf at the 1976 Montreal Games. Since then, Sport Group brands have supplied turf for 12 Olympic tournaments, with Poligras returning for its ninth appearance in LA.
Paris 2024 debuted the first carbon zero hockey turf, Poligras Paris GT zero, and research for the LA28 turf is already underway, aiming to further reduce water use and carbon footprint.
Melissa Twist, AstroTurf’s Director of Field Hockey, said: “Providing the turf for a home Olympic Games, 52 years after Montreal, is deeply rewarding and a testament to our enduring commitment to hockey.”
Post Games, the pitches will be relocated to strategic locations across the US, in coordination with USA Field Hockey and LA28.
