Grace O’Malley-Kumar Cup staged in Nottingham

The brother of Grace O’Malley-Kumar, a victim of the Nottingham knife attack, won the hockey tournament played in her memory at the weekend.

James Kumar captained the Grace All Stars in the mixed team event at Nottingham Hockey Centre.

James had players such as England duo Conor Williamson and Darcy Bourne in his side.

Dr Sinead O’Malley and Dr Sanjoy Kumar, Grace’s parents, were present at the tournament.

Former Uni of Nottingham team-mates Maddie Axford captained the Wockey Ones while Sofia Martin led the Southgate Legacy.

Grace’s friend Katie Curtis, an organiser of the mixed event, told spectators: “Grace’s life was full of joy and this is a celebration and legacy to her.”

Grace represented England at U16s and U18s level before her death in June 2023.

Last year, James said it was an “honour” to wear his sister’s now-retired No.7 shirt as the tournament set up to remember the gifted hockey player was first staged in Nottingham.

The Grace O’Malley-Kumar Foundation helps support those in their sporting and academic endeavours and promotes community service.
