New Zealand men claim FIH Hockey Nations Cup after trouncing Pakistan

New Zealand won back-to-back Nations Cup titles and with it the chance to be promoted back to the Pro League.

The Black Sticks turned down a previous invite, while the team they beat in the final in Malaysia, Pakistan, were banned from the inaugural global league.

On Saturday, the Kiwis were in rampant mood and were 5-0 up inside 27 minutes and even had two goals disallowed in the opening skirmishes.

Scott Cosslett opened the scoring and he found a double two minutes from time as New Zealand finished 6-2 winners.

“I’m very happy that it happened in the final and very happy for our success, and looking forward to what we can accomplish together.”

France finished third after beating Korea 3-2 in a shoot-out after a 3-3 draw.

Wales finished fifth after a narrow win over hosts Malaysia.
