Hockey Pro League: England women endure double Argentina defeat

Lee Valley — Two of English hockey’s greats were on the pitch at half-time as Laura Roper was presented with a photo collage by her former captain Hollie Pearne-Webb here on Sunday.

“If you put in hard work it will get you a long way,” said Roper, when asked to impart some wisdom to aspiring players. The current elite squad tried their best for the remaining 30 minutes as they bid to take Argentina to a shoot-out and vital points in their quest to lift themselves from the foot of the women’s Pro League table.

In the end, this was a seventh defeat in eight for David Ralph’s side after two tight but fruitless weekend games against the Olympic bronze medallists.
