England men Hockey Pro League hopes stutter ahead of ‘Dutch duels’

Lee Valley — Wimbledon’s Jack Turner admitted to a “very different feeling” from the last time he faced Germany in an England shirt. It came eight years ago “in front of about 10 people” during his senior debut in a tri series in South Africa.

On Sunday, he lined up as England attempted to make further inroads on Pro League leaders the Netherlands. With England’s returning continental players added to the squad and Zach Jones’ side still finding their feet, Germany won 3-2 as England’s Pro League title hopes hit a wall. It followed a shoot-out bonus point win on Saturday, with Germany now unbeaten in five in normal time against England as the EuroHockey Championships loom closer.
