Old Georgians aiming for rare England Hockey Finals four-peat

Old Georgians will be aiming to become only the third club side to win four successive Premier Division men’s titles this weekend at Nottingham Hockey Centre.

OGs will be odds-on favourites to land their fourth in a row which would match Cannock’s feat in the early 2000s and the Slough team of the early 1980s.

The defending champs, unbeaten this season and who last lost in September 2023, have racked up over 100 goals in their 19 regular season matches so far.

Chief catalyst has been Sam Ward’s 38 goals, with Tom Carson and Alan Forsyth adding 34 between them.

The international-laden outfit will pose a stern test for Oxted, Premier Division finals first-timers.

Meanwhile Surbiton and Wimbledon, who meet in their semi-final clash, are Top 6 mainstays and have been regular Finals Weekend regulars.

Surbiton, who have relied on their traditional PC firepower this season as well as the in-form, headband wearing Struan Walker’s goals, will be aiming to avert last season’s Finals loss to OGs on their home ground.

In the Women’s Premier Division finale, Surbiton will be gunning for back-to-back titles after East Grinstead ended their stranglehold in 2023 after eight straight titles.

The two meet each other in the semi-finals on Saturday, with EG looking to capitalise on a rare slip-up by Surbiton in their recent loss to Loughborough Students put their Finals Weekend berth in doubt.

Darcy Bourne has been the standout in front of goal for Surbiton, with 13 goals, while EG’s teen star Biba Mills has notched 17.

It’s an evenly-matched affair, as is the H&W v Reading semi-final. The Londoners have a stout defence, while Reading have been consistent campaigners this season at the top end of the league.
