England Hockey Premier Division: A season of neglect

THP SAYS: What will it take for the Premier Division to be taken seriously at Bisham Abbey?

Several months ago, England Hockey posted a job advert which highlighted all the areas any successful candidate would be working on, notably the 2027 EuroHockey in London, but seemingly neglected anything to do with promotion or marketing of its flagship Premier Divisions.

The Men’s and Women’s Finals Weekend takes place in Nottingham over the weekend, not that the governing body’s website has any mention of who’s playing, its main asset leading with ticket sales for this summer’s Pro League.

  1. You’re completely correct.
Try finding results, let alone updates or live results on the day, of junior internationals held in the last month or so, let alone who was in each team, etc. There are more examples, but proactivity and a decent website aren’t things you relate to EH.
I doubt many players, or administrators, below Premier League level could name 12-16 players in the England men’s or women’s teams. That’s appalling
I laughed (sadly) when the excellent Paul Revington left the men’s side and commented that even after his time in England he had no idea how hockey in England works. I wasn’t surprised.

  2. Did you get that photo from England Hockey too? It’s from last season and Ellie now plays for Surbiton and Enya plays for Sutton!

  3. Invisible season but par for the course. There was a hint of a cared for product when now pensions and investec joined hands 10 or so years ago but the sport was happy for the sponsorship rather than find ways to lift the league experience.

  4. I could name more Dutch players men and women, as they are so much better with their social media and website info , including separate feeds for their junior sides.
