England Hockey Finals Weekend hopes go to wire

Champions Old Georgians and Wimbledon have qualified for the Men’s Premier Division league finals weekend next month.

OGs and Wimbledon are both unbeaten from their two matches and can’t be overtaken by East Grinstead or H&W, with only one match remaining in the pool stages.

In the other group, Surbiton have qualified but the final standings remain unknown, with Holcombe able to finish top while Oxted can also finish second.

Surbiton host Holcombe next weekend, while Oxted must beat Beeston at home to keep their hopes alive.

The women’s Pool A has a similar scenario, with East Grinstead and H&W qualifying for the finals at Beeston between May 3-4 following two opening wins.

It is wide open in Pool B, with Reading in the driving seat following two wins from two and on six points, with Surbiton and Loughborough Students locked on three points.

The students set up a shot at qualifying for the finals after a superb 4-3 win over Surbiton.

The Students play Clifton Robinsons next weekend while Surbiton host Reading.
