Reading secured their return to the Men’s Premier Division at the first time of asking on Sunday.
Fresh from signing a club shirt sponsor in UK doorstep delivery company Milk & More, the Berkshire side beat Team Bath Buccaneers 4-0 to spark title celebrations.
Reading needed a win from their remaining two games, with season-long rivals Indian Gymkhana still in the title mix.
Charlie Ellison and Sam Welsh scored first-half goals before Tom Minall’s two in as many minutes set the party rolling, with around 50 travelling support. The clean sheet confirmed their status as the best defence in the league by some distance.
“We had to put in a good performance today which we did, we’re absolutely delighted,” said coach Todd Williams.
“They are a fabulous bunch of players who were hurting from two tough years in the Premier Division.
“When you come to Reading you realise how many people are involved in the whole club and the effort that goes into it. This is a team and club effort.”
Williams joined Reading as head of men’s performance before the start of the season and also stepped up as men’s coach three weeks prior to their first game.
“We had to start from scratch and I can’t fault their application,” added the Australian.
Indian Gymkhana are an uncatchable four points behind Reading heading into the final weekend after beating Canterbury 4-3.
The Kent side are facing relegation on the final day and are two points ahead of Uni of Bristol at the bottom of the table.
Canterbury face third bottom Buccaneers, while Bristol face mid table Uni of Exeter.
In Men’s Division One North, it is a straight final day scrap between leaders Loughborough Students and Brooklands MU for the race to top tier promotion.
The Students lead Brooklands by one point.
Brooklands host third-placed Uni of Nottingham while Loughborough face Durham.
