England top FIH Hockey Pro League standings after PC masterclass

England men’s bid for a first FIH Pro League title was boosted by pole position over Christmas following the first cluster of matches in the global league.

England head the standings with 11 points after three wins from their opening four games before the next phase of matches start in February following the Hockey India League.

Sam Ward netted four goals as England men strolled past Ireland in an 8-0 win over the weekend.

England had prevailed from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in a shoot-out when the sides met in their opening encounter on Thursday.

Against the Irish, they put on a PC show, converting seven of 13 chances.

Sam Hooper netted a brace, so too Stu Rushmere as did Rohan Bhuhi for his first England goal.

Meanwhile Argentina edged Ireland in the final game on Sunday, winning 4-3 and Tomas Domene scoring a hat-trick.

England are three points ahead of Belgium, with Ireland in sixth on one point.
