A hockey-playing former MP is in the running to become mayor of Lincolnshire.
Ben Bradley, former MP for Mansfield, plays in goal at Lindum Hockey Club.
He recently stepped down as leader of Nottinghamshire County Council. He had been a county councillor since 2017 before becoming leader in 2021.
The Conservative group leader admitted after defeats in mayoral and general elections that he had been mulling over his next steps. He is now on the shortlist of six Tory hopefuls.
He said: “My family hails from Bourne, and I live on the Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire border, having lived and worked in Grantham previously, including stepping in to support the MP during serious illness and acting on his behalf on campaigns such as the fight to save Grantham A&E in 2016/17.
“I play hockey in Lincoln, and my business is also based there. The biggest project I have been working on in recent years is STEP Fusion, a £20bn Fusion energy investment near Gainsborough.”
Bradley has previously spoken to The Hockey Paper on the 3G issue in the sport.
The ex chair of the parliamentary group for hockey in the UK said that there are signs the sport could move towards having “fewer, larger clubs” due to the 3G issue, while also highlighting that there could be more unlocking of facilities in schools for wider communities.
