Hampstead & Westminster stole a march on season league leaders Reading to top the Women’s Premier Division standings heading into the winter break.
H&W put on an indoor scoreline to win 5-1 at Sonning Lane in a top of the table clash on Saturday. Lucy Hyams scored their fifth for her eighth of the season.
The north Londoners hold a two-point lead over Reading – both sides having lost once in 11 games – with Surbiton in third and East Grinstead holding fourth spot.
Surbiton beat UoB 2-1 on the road, while East Grinstead were held to a 1-1 draw at home. Teenager Biba Mills was once again on the scoresheet for EG.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon racked up a 10-1 thrashing of Sutton Coldfield. Becky Manton scored five as the basement club were put to the sword.
Loughborough Students are in a top six place with a game in hand after postponement, ahead of Clifton, UoB and UoN who all look to be vying for a top eight finish when Phase 2 resumes.
Meanwhile, in the Men’s Premier Division, champions Old Georgians hold a five-point lead at the top, ahead of Holcombe, Surbiton and Wimbledon.
On Saturday, OGS edged Wimbledon 4-3, the hosts indebted to Tom Carson, who scored all four, including the winner two minutes from time. Goalkeeper George Pinner was yellow carded in the second-half.
Struan Walker scored his 17th of the season as Surbiton won 6-3 against H&W.
East Grinstead thrashed Southgate 6-2, with Nick Bandurak returning from injury to bag a brace on debut. EG finish seventh, with Oxted securing a top six place, winning 5-1 at Richmond.
At the bottom, Bowdon prop up the table, with Southgate and Richmond in the bottom three, all having won once in Phase 1.
