Club Watch: Oxted – from ‘bus shelter’ to premier, no frills surroundings

The Hockey Paper ventures to Oxted HC, who play Premier Division matches at Caterham Sports Centre

It’s an evocative sight when astro lights come into view in otherwise dark surroundings. That much is so on this autumnal late afternoon at Oxted, who play opposite Caterham School in their well-appointed sports centre.

“Those who have been with the club a while will remember our old pitch bus shelter dugouts where new players had to assemble new dugouts,” Oxted’s men coach Nick Giles had said in the matchday programme.

  1. Wow, well I could hear the balcony cheering and shouting, from the far side of the pitch so not sure why you didn’t think there was atmosphere. Banter from both teams. Louder when there isn’t a match clash with the other teams and they can get back to watch.
