Top GB athletes so hard up they may quit Olympic Games bid

Poor funding could freeze out British athletes at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, says Hollie Pearne-Webb.

A new survey suggests that hundreds of Olympic and Paralympic athletes can’t afford to keep competing through to 2028 unless funding increases.

Sixty-four per cent of 189 athletes surveyed by the British Elite Athlete Association (BEAA), of which Pearne-Webb is an athletes board member, said they would end their careers if their funding award did not change for the next Olympic cycle, which has yet to be announced.
