Ben Rhydding’s Tom Kendall netted a superb last minute winner as England defended their men’s O35 World Cup title in Cape Town.
Hosts South Africa were runners-up in successive finals after going down 4-3 in a thrilling finale.
Kendall latched on to a long aerial and ball into the circle before dispatching from a tight angle to spark jubilant scenes in a well-balanced match. Bedford’s Vincent Pretorius had earlier scored a brace.
In the O35 women’s final, South Africa found gold as runaway 4-1 winners over the Netherlands.
Wendy Snelling scored two, including on half-time and in the final moments.
England won bronze with a 4-3 victory over Australia. England led 4-2 at half-time, while Australia were handed three yellow cards in what looked to be a fraught third quarter.
Australia won O40s women gold after beating Argentina 1-0 in the final. Las Leonas Masters also finished runners-up in 2022.
Hosts South Africa did claim gold in the O40s men’s final courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Australia.
England held off a last-gasp fight back from rivals the Netherlands to lift the O65 men’s gold.
England beat the Dutch 2-1 in the shoot-out after the Oranje failed to score from their final four efforts as English goalkeeper James Felix held firm in goal.
It finished 2-2 after normal time, with Sjef van Geel scoring in the fifth and final minute. Balkar Jawanda and Rod Naughalty had given England a 2-1 lead.
In the O70s men’s showdown, Germany prevailed 4-1 over Australia, bronze medallists in 2022.
Australia also came away with silver in the men’s O75 category, with Santa Bansal leading the way in a 3-0 gold medal display for England.
England LX beat Alliance A 3-2 in the O70s International Masters Cup.
In the O65s final the GK for the second half of the game and the GK for the shoot-out was actually Dave Webb. James Felix was in goal for the first half
