India beat Great Britain to open Sultan of Johor with double

Former goalkeeper PR Sreejesh enjoyed a successful opening to his coaching career with young India, culminating with a 6-4 win over Great Britain at the Sultan of Johor Hockey Cup in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Indian pair Dilraj Singh and Sharda Tiwari both scored doubles, the former’s penalty corner strike down the middle giving the under-21 side breathing space after GB had closed the gap to 4-3.

Rory Penrose had earlier helped GB to a 2-1 lead.

GB, who have won the Malaysian event in 2018 and 2019, had started the tournament in style with a 3-1 win over age-old rivals Australia.

Kade Draysey had paved the way for the win with two goals in six first-half minutes.

India started their campaign with a 4-2 win over Japan.

Great Britain’s Michael Royden is the current top scorer with three goals.
