The post-Olympic coaching merry-go-round continued on Friday after England and GB men’s coach Paul Revington surprisingly quit his role.
With Australia currently on the lookout for a head coach, the well-travelled South African could well be tempted by the Down Under role after stints with Ireland and Malaysia.
Revington was appointed in April 2022 and guided England to silver at the 2023 EuroHockey and up to world No.2 for the first time in 10 years.
The news means that GB hockey are currently without a men’s coach and performance director as the LA2028 cycle starts. Zak Jones has been appointed interim coach.
His style of play seemed to turn around the men’s programme fortunes and an Olympic medal looked on the cards before defeat to 10-men India in the Paris quarter-finals.
Revington said: “It has been a privilege to work with such an exceptional squad of players and staff team over the past two and a half years, and I am incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together.
“While this is the right time for me to step aside, I have full confidence in the squad’s future, and I wish them all the very best as they continue this exciting journey together.”
Nick Pink, England Hockey CEO, said: “We are immensely grateful to Paul for his outstanding leadership over the past two and a half years, and it’s with a heavy heart that we see him step down.
“During his time with us, the team has reached remarkable new heights, from securing a silver medal in Germany to multiple podium finishes in the FIH Hockey Pro League.
“Paul has fostered an incredibly positive and dynamic environment, where our players have truly thrived, and he has introduced an exciting style of play that has put England and Great Britain firmly on the global stage.”
