Meet the Welsh mayor juggling Masters hockey, building inspector work and local politics

Whether he is in Abergavenny Town Hall or on the hockey pitch in the Valencia heat, Chris Holland is well-practised at representing the Welsh people.

As recently appointed Mayor of Abergavenny, Holland will be increasingly familiar with civic regalia, but in his free time, he has been pulling on the red shirt to represent Wales in Masters hockey. He has earned caps at O60, O70 and O75 level for Wales and last summer represented the O75s in Valencia at the World Masters Hockey European Championships 2023.

“I still get a thrill when I put my international shirt on, even at my age. To walk out and to play against Germany, England, the Netherlands and Belgium. To play against those top sides and to represent your country, it’s always been the thing for me,” Holland tells The Hockey Paper.
