How to train like a hockey Olympian

Former Lead Physical Preparation Coach for GB and England Hockey women, Tom Drowley, explains a run-up to a major competition.

“You’re not going to make huge gains [at this stage], but if you get the period wrong you could lose vital physical capabilities,” says Tom Drowley of the lead up to an Olympic Games.

“Training actually has to be quite intense. They’ll finish Pro League, have a few days to a week break, and then they’ll be back in. It’ll be gym sessions because strength and power are so vital to the modern-day game.
