Paris 2024 share Olympic hockey fans’ ‘disappointment’ – but no ticket refunds

Paris 2024 organisers have confirmed that no refunds will be offered to ticket holders who were forced to evacuate Wednesday’s Olympic hockey session.

Fans were told to leave the stadium venue after Météo France informed Paris 2024 of a risk of heavy thunderstorms with wind gusts exceeding 120 km/h and placed Paris and its region under orange alert, the second highest alert level.

“Faced with this risk of severe weather, Paris 2024 took the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of spectators,” organisers told The Hockey Paper in a statement.

“Given the time needed to shelter the public, we began evacuating the two competition venues most at risk at the end of the day, including the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium.

“Paris 2024 understands and shares the disappointment of the spectators who were unable to attend the end of their session. We are doing everything we can to adapt in real-time to the risks of severe weather events, which are often unpredictable. The safety of spectators, athletes, staff and volunteers will always be our priority.”

Many fans felt they were given no explanation from stadium volunteers and felt aggrieved at missing the remaining match, more so when no adverse weather materialised.

Paris 2024 added: “Under Paris 2024’s general terms and conditions of sale, no refund is offered if the majority of session has already taken place.”

  1. Typical the French are ripping everyone off / the transportation is a shambles /the ticket app doesn’t work and the carnet tickets are random. The facilities at the hockey for people with mobility issues are non existent whereas at the rowing and canoe there are buggies to take people to and from venue to buses

  2. It is a disgrace! Even if not legally binding there is a moral requirement to refund. That the organisers care is corporate spin. They made a very poor decision, the games were played without problems and fans left empty handed. People can make their own mind up given specific information. Another farcical decision at a French venue. Awful for kids who had tickets.

  3. It was really terrible and I understood them perfectly well how lucky I was that that day I was busy playing on my favorite online gaming site – https://bettingsites-ghana.com/ This is where I felt like a real player because here are the best games that give you the opportunity to open up and get what you came for fun and interesting game experience on the best site, do not hesitate and win!

  4. Majority? Only 1 of 2 matches has been played. That is 50%; not a majority!!

Venue, facilities, catering, decision, communication, “customer care” were poor for hockey but much better at other venues/sports.

Sportsmanlike behavior would be to give a refund; or at least partial…
