Paris Olympics Hockey: ‘Maddie Hinch has taught USA women how to grind games out’

The Hockey Paper speaks to the US Field Hockey coach on Maddie Hinch, getting into opposition heads in PCDs and how to win playing poorly

Paris — As world No.13 outsiders, Team USA are also fielding a squad packed to the rafters with Olympic debutants. Not that this is deterring David Passmore, the US women’s coach, who is using all his years of coaching knowledge to his advantage. Including the key addition of manager and two-time Olympian Maddie Hinch.

“We have learned a lot about how to grind games out, how to play poorly and still win,” Passmore tells The Hockey Paper.

“She has been instrumental in that, building the confidence that you don’t have to be the better team to win the game and you don’t have to score perfect goals to win matches.”
