Paris Olympics Hockey: Great Britain women go aerial to beat South Africa

Paris — It took 42 minutes of Great Britain’s third match to finally show their killer touch in front of goal from open play, as Hannah French scored a superb winner to record the Tokyo bronze medallists’ first three-pointer of their 2024 campaign.

There was a sense of relief and joy at the final hooter too, as Team GB players rounded Pitch 2 here amid a wave of Union Jack flags.

After a stuttering start in Colombes, with two defeats, Team GB edged South Africa 2-1. Victory gives David Ralph’s side momentum ahead of their next task: to beat USA and Pool leaders Argentina in their final games, avoid fourth place and a likely showdown with the Dutch in the quarter-finals.

Yet, nothing is certain.
