England Hockey Premier Division: Bowdon men face Old Georgians on opening day

Newly-promoted Bowdon face a stiff test in their first match back in the Men’s Premier Division for 14 years when they play champions Old Georgians on the opening day of the 2024/24 season.

Old Georgians are gunning for four successive league titles, as well as high hopes for a successful European campaign having signed several international stars for their campaign.

Surbiton, who OGs beat in last season’s final, will welcome Oxted to Sugden Road. Richmond, the only promoted team not to have played in the top-flight previously, travel to Beeston on the opening weekend.

The first matches take place on Sep 21.

Women’s champions Surbiton start the defence of their crown with a trip to Clifton Robinsons.

Runners up Hampstead & Westminster will travel to East Grinstead, who they beat in last season’s semi-final.

Holcombe, whose women’s team are newly promoted to the Premier Division, take on Wimbledon men and women in an opening weekend double header. 

The other promoted side, Sutton Coldfield, have a local derby at Birmingham University.

Phase One matches run through until Nov 23. Phase Two will see teams once again split into Top Six and Bottom Six after the winter break.
