FIH Hockey Pro League: Great Britain secure cross gender double header brace

Great Britain men and women recorded a weekend double at Lee Valley on Sunday as both coaches continued to make changes with Olympic selection still firmly up for grabs.

GB men beat India 3-1 in a lively, entertaining encounter between the two Olympic hopefuls next month, while Charlotte Watson put herself in the Paris mix with a brace as GB held out to beat India 3-2.

Nick Bandurak helped himself to two more international goals before Will Calnan kept GB’s two-goal cushion after Abhishek had set up a thrilling denouement and James Mazarelo’s defence keeping India’s eight penalty corners at bay.

Meanwhile, GB women, for the second game running, had to fight in the closing stages before beating India by the same scoreline they edged USA on Saturday.

After Sharmila Devi had pulled India back to 2-1, Izzy Petter immediately scored for GB, only to receive a yellow card moments later.

They then had to contend with, as with Grace Balsdon’s yellow against USA, some jittery moments before securing the three points.
