Paris Olympic hockey changes reserve ruling – despite heatwave threat

The Olympic hockey tournament at Paris 2024 will revert to its existing rules for squad reserves — despite the threat of a heatwave during the Games this summer.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed to The Hockey Paper that the two playing reserves can only be called up if an injury occurs within the 16-strong squads. 

For the Tokyo Games, competing nations could use the 17th and 18th squad members, who were previously only able to play if injuries occurred from the original selections. Competition rules were relaxed across five sports, including hockey, for Tokyo.
