Hockey Pro League: India aim to keep table-topping form for Europe trip

India head to Europe and their top-of-the-table clash with Great Britain in the FIH Pro League with Harmanpreet Singh as captain, Manpreet Singh in a new positional role and new coach Craig Fulton set for his first assignment.

Fulton announced his 24-strong squad on Monday, with India heading the table alongside GB on 19 points. GB, though, remain unbeaten in normal time in this season’s global league after eight matches.

India head to Europe buoyed by an undefeated home campaign following matches with World Cup champions Germany and Australia in Bhubaneswar.

India take on Belgium and GB in London followed by the Netherlands and Argentina in Eindhoven.

Goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak returns to the squad after missing the home matches due to his wedding. He will be joined by PR Sreejesh while penalty corner specialists Harmanpreet, Amit Rohidas, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sanjay and Mandeep Mor also make the trip.

Manpreet, who was beating heart of India’s midfield, will play in India’s defence  along with Sumit and Gurinder Singh. Midfield will be led by vice-captain Hardik Singh along with Dilpreet Singh, Moirangthem Rabichandra Singh, Shamsher Singh, Akashdeep Singh and Vivek Sagar Prasad.

Simranjeet Singh returns to attack after last playing at the Asia Cup in Jakarta.

“This tournament will be a great opportunity for us to compete against top-ranked teams and further improve our overall game. We are looking forward to the challenge and hope to have a strong finish to the pro league tournament,” Fulton said.
