Sporting world going in right direction on concussion issue, says Shona McCallin

While concussion research is currently relatively in its infancy compared to many other injuries, GB star Shona McCallin wants to keep conversations around the prevention of and recovery from concussions ongoing, both in hockey and in other spheres.

Last week, the Government and the Sport and Recreation Alliance published the first UK-wide Concussion Guidelines for Grassroots Sport which it says will help players, coaches, parents, schools, national governing bodies and sports administrators to manage and prevent the issue.

‘If in doubt, sit them out’ is the headline advice while the four key elements the guidance aims to bring to light are physical, mental processing, mood and sleep.
