One of the hottest jobs in English hockey is vacant after Brett Garrard’s decision to end his tenure as a multiple, championship-winning coach at Surbiton women.
Surbiton called his 14 years at the club, which garnered eight Premier Division titles, as “an unprecedented spell of success in English club hockey”. We really should be heralding Garrard’s tenure with Surbiton as perhaps the most successful in British elite club sport. Can Surbiton women’s record be matched elsewhere? He will be missed, that’s for sure. “Absolute class act,” Spanish coach Max Caldas said of Garrard.

An outstanding coach and person . Brett has always been ambitious for his club and teams and has helped to shape Surbiton into the super- club it is today .
One could only feel a degree of sympathy that his desire for success in European competition was too often thwarted by the demands of the international programme . I wish him every success at Epsom College .
