Hockey Pro League: GB women start life without Maddie Hinch

Sabbie Heesh and Miriam Pritchard will vie for the No.1 jersey as Great Britain women start life for the first time without the recently-retired Maddie Hinch.

Goalkeepers Heesh and Pritchard are called up for GB’s squad ahead of their FIH Pro League matches against Australia and New Zealand in Christchurch.

GB men and women will play the new mini tournament structure in the global league between April 22-29.

Darcy Bourne and Charlotte Watson are both called up, while the latter joins fellow Scots Amy Costello and Sarah Robertson, who also make the trip.

Laura Unsworth reverts to her newly-married name of Roper.

On the men’s side, David Ames will captain the Great Britain side, which features Scotland and Welsh representation.

The squad will travel with many of the England players who featured in January’s World Cup in India.

Rupert Shipperley and Jacob Draper, who played for Wales, return to GB colours.

Scot Lee Morton is included in Paul Revington’s 20-strong squad.

Of England’s World Cup squad, Liam Ansell, Harry Martin, Nick Park and Phil Roper don’t feature. Brendan Creed, a reserve, is called up into the main squad.

Meanwhile, GB Hockey has announced that tickets for GB v Belgium men and women in the Pro League on May 28 have sold out.
