Hockey stars to watch: Sophie Hamilton on her England women journey in 2022

Sophie Hamilton started the year as an England debutant in Argentina and ended it as a fully-fledged GB international in the same country this month. In between, she experienced the highs and lows of international hockey, first when she was surrounded by team-mates after going agonisingly close to levelling up against, yes, Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals before standout performances in England’s Commonwealth gold.

Hamilton, 21, is one of the stars of the future and 2022 will go down as the year she put a marker on the game for England and GB. 

“Now the team has a huge sense of belief,” says Hamilton, who first debuted for GB in 2020, on England’s Commonwealth golden summer. “We knew that we were capable of it, but doing it is something very different.”
