Hockey World Cup 2023: Wales set for warm-up event in Spain

Wales will begining preparations for their first men’s World Cup appearance by playing a warm-up event in Cadiz, Spain.

With the World Cup in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela just two months away, Wales men are set to take part in a preparation tournament in Cadiz from Dec 10-21.

The selected squad of 24 will play six games against high-level opposition during the tournament, including Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Japan, and Korea.

Head coach Danny Newcombe said: “We know that nothing replicates playing against the top teams in the world, which is why we are really pleased to have secured a spot in Cadiz with six high-level games.

“It is a fantastic opportunity and perfect preparation to ensure we can hit the ground running in India.”

In Pool D at January’s World Cup, hosts India are the highest ranked side – at 5 – and will face England, Spain and Wales.
