‘Seriously worried’: UK hockey clubs raise concern over electricity increases

CLUB FILE: The first in a series on how energy crisis will affect hockey clubs

Hockey clubs in the UK have expressed “extreme concern” and worry over hefty increases in electricity rates as the cost of living crisis takes effect.

The Hockey Paper contacted over 30 clubs in the summer ahead of the anticipated hike in energy bills. Clubs which owned their facility admitted that membership or match fees may have to be increased, other clubs were at the mercy of local councils and pitch access, while there have been calls for government to issue grants for LED lighting.

It has been reported that 85 per cent of public leisure companies face shutting doors on some or all of their facilities in the coming months after energy bill increases, with increases of up to 240 per cent forecast next year.
